UFCW 3000 Member Story: Emma Perdomo

Emma Perdomo and her dogs out and about

Emma Perdomo received her Bachelor of Science from Southern New Hampshire University in Health Information Management. She moved to Washington with her husband and applied at North Valley Hospital in Tonasket Washington. Emma got the job and was placed on the union-bargained wage scale but suspected it wasn’t the correct step.

After speaking with her union representative at the new member meeting and getting a better understanding of the contract she emailed HR one more time quoting the relevant contract language, HR agreed to move her up one step on the wage scale to a higher pay rate. It goes to show you that advocating for yourself on the job is good, but advocating for yourself with a union contract behind you is better!

During her downtime, Emma enjoys spending time with her husband, Eddie, and taking her two mixed Huskie-German Shepherds, Malia & Kona for walks to explore Washington’s gorgeous outdoors.

If you are new on the job, drop by our New Members page to fill out your union application, learn about our union, and New Member Meetings to get educated about your rights on the job!

“My first year of negotiations was very enlightening. I greatly appreciate all the hard work from the team. A lot of hard work was put forth in coming to an agreement. We are excited to share with you at the vote. Thank you to everyone that was involved. I am happy with the outcome of this new contract” —Tonya Smith, CNA/HUS

UFCW 3000 Member Story: Sonia Padilla

Sonia Padilla, UFCW 3000 member and health care worker at North Valley Hospital

This week’s #MemberMonday spotlight is on Sonia Padilla, who has worked at North Valley Hospital in Tonasket, WA for 20 years!

Sonia immigrated to to the United States from Mexico at the age of 15. For 3 summers, she worked in the orchards while learning English. In her senior year of high school, Sonia told her dad that she wanted to try something other than farm work. Sonia enrolled in the CNA program offered through her high school.

Sonia recalls going to the North Valley Hospital DNS every other day, asking if any positions had opened. Finally, she was offered a position as a sitter; at the time of her hire, Sonia was also the only Latina worker at the hospital. In the two decades since, Sonia has advanced her career from CNA to currently a MA-C in the Emergency Room.

Sonia's patients love that she always treats everyone as if they are her family, providing the most compassionate care she can to her patients and their families. Her co-workers deeply respect Sonia, seeing her as a treasure trove of knowledge and expertise. Sonia is always looking out for her co-workers' rights, bringing forward issues, and helping to enforce their contract.

She is a bright star to her co-workers and community. Sonia — thank you for all that you do!

North Valley Bargaining Update: Management still wants to limit our EIB Usage

While we agree on many issues the limited use of EIB affects all members. As we continue to go through the COVID -19 pandemic management proposing to limit our EIB usage is not acceptable.

Support your Bargaining Team by signing the petition and wearing your sticker to show management we want a fair contract.

“In Solidarity — sticker up! We are working hard to have all our voices heard”

North Valley - Management Continues to Low Ball Us: Not Willing to Use COVID $ for Incentive Shifts

2021 0303 - North Valley Bargaining Update2.jpg

After another round of bargaining with Management our team was disappointed to see another Low Ball offer. Also at a time when they have millions of funds for COVID relief in their bank account they refuse to offer incentive shifts or bonuses for all the hard work we have faced over the last year through the Pandemic. They also want to limit our use of sick leave when we are asked to go home because of illness.

“We need to come together and make a plan on moving Management off of their takeaways to our contract. Join our Bargaining Team for a Strategic Contract Action Planning.”

North Valley Hospital - Management's Low Ball First Offer

2021 0222 - North Valley Bargaining Update.jpg

The first economical offer from North Valley was exceptionally low and did not show respect for our work. The team is bargaining Via Zoom, and while this has its challenges, we are continuing to bargain for fair wage increase and clearer contract language to support the needs of North Valley Hospital members.

We head back to the table this week and will keep you posted. The bargaining team appreciates your support.
