Conifer St. Elizabeth & St. Joseph - Action Planned

2020 0521 - Conifer St Elizabeth Update.jpg

The St. Elizabeth Bargaining Team met with Management to continue progress on securing a fair contract on May 19, and the St. Joseph Bargaining Team were at the table on May 20 and 21 for the first two bargaining sessions. We have made some progress but are still working to resolve the issues that matter most to us all. We will have a full report at the CAT meeting scheduled for May 26.

“We had a difficult day today, but we remained strong on the issues that mattered most to us, and we are committed to seeing this through. We have an action planned that will show Management we are united and ready to fight. Join us for the CAT meeting at 5PM on May 26 for more details.”

Colleen McKee, Bargaining Team Member

“I look forward to working alongside my fellow members to secure a contract that is fair and competitive with the market.”

Josie Talavera-Berg, Bargaining Team Member

Grocery Store Bargain: Negotiations Continue on Pension, Important Public Actions Coming Soon

UNITED logo 21 38 367.jpg

Our union member bargaining team has been in negotiations with Albertsons/Safeway over our pension for the past two days. While we have not reached a pension agreement with Albertsons/Safeway that aligns with our existing pension TA with Kroger, we have continued to make progress in negotiations and we are holding the line to ensure we keep our pension valuable and viable.

In addition to negotiations, our team has been hard at work planning ways to address U Scan’s impact on our jobs and encouraging members to fill out their Personal Health Assessments. The PHA saves members hundreds of dollars on health costs. The deadline is September 30th.  Click here to begin your PHA.

On Wednesday, our team will be out in stores across the region meeting with members to discuss negotiations and bringing co-workers up to date on our next actions.

Banner Actions:

Next week our three unions, UFCW 21, Teamsters 38 and UFCW 367, will be holding shared actions to engage with our community in a different way than we have so far in the campaign for a fair contract. We will be out at select freeway overpasses in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties with banners promoting our message: One Good Job Should Be Enough.

Contact your store leader or Union Rep for more details on these actions and to RSVP for the one nearest you. Let’s show our communities and our employers that we’re standing strong and it’s time for a fair contract.

CAT Meetings:

Our regular Contract Action Team meetings will be held all across the region 9/22-9/28. Each store leader should be able to give you details with the exact dates, times and locations nearest you.

United West Updates:

California: As you may have heard, the local UFCWs in Southern California reached a tentative agreement for a new contract over the weekend. Their contract’s expiration was in March. Their bargaining team is recommending a yes vote, and their votes are taking place this week.

Oregon: Local 555 is continuing contract negotiations after voting to authorize a strike. Show your support for UFCW 555 members on social media this week! Facebook Instagram

Members Stand Up for Their Rights...

QFC had been requiring UFCW 21 members to fill out FMLA paperwork to receive sick leave pay across the region. This is not about the Seattle Sick Leave law. This is about our rights in our contract for when you are sick for three days or more so you can access your sick leave bank. Our win clarifies that they cannot withhold sick leave pay because you have not yet filed FMLA paperwork.
