In April and May, hundreds of Grocery Store Workers collectively took actions to demonstrate the importance of uninterrupted meal and rest breaks at work. Fatigue and stress can lead to safety issues for workers. The best way to keep safe and prevent accidents is to take your breaks on time. A physically rested worker is more productive, more focused, and completes tasks with fewer errors. Breaks are also a basic sign of respect that we all deserve. Breaks are required under state law and protected in our contracts. When we work through our breaks, we encourage our employer to short our shifts. The solution is proper staffing levels, not missing breaks.
