License Fee Increases Proposed by Department of Health

We have just been advised that the Department of Health is planning significant increases to license fees for certain health care job classifications, including Radiologic Technologists, Mental Health Counselors, Social Workers, and Respiratory Therapists. In some cases, fees would more than double.

Insurance Rate Hike Accountability Bill Passes State House!

The Healthy Washington Coalition has achieved the major milestone of having one of our priority pieces of legislation pass both the Senate and the House. The House passed the Insurance Rate Accountability bill today by a vote of 68-28. The bill passed the Senate several weeks ago.

Union scholarship applications are now available! Local 21 is offering up to ten ,000 scholarships for full-time students and up to four 0 scholarships for part-time students. The UFCW International Union also offers ,000 scholarships. All current members or dependents of current members are eligible to apply. 2008 Scholarship Applications Available

This year, Local 21 is again offering up to ten $2,000 scholarships and up to for $750 scholarships. All current union members, their dependents, and spouses are eligible to apply. Applicants must be attending or accepted to attend an accredited college, university, community college, or recognized trade or business school at the time the scholarships are awarded.

Seattle – By 92%, Puget Sound grocery workers overwhelmingly approved their three-year contract agreement with three national grocery chains: Safeway, SuperValue (Albertson’s) and Kroger (Fred Meyer and QFC). United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 21 had recommended members ratify the contract after over five months of negotiations.
