NO on Initiatives 1100 & 1105
Vote NO on risky liquor schemes

What they will do: Initiatives 1100 & 1105 are slightly different measures with very similar impacts. Both would eliminate our state liquor store system and allow all outlets which currently sell wine & beer to begin selling hard liquor. Regulations which control the distribution and sale of hard liquor would be eliminated under both of these initiatives.
Why we’re against it
Our state liquor store system works. Washington’s no-sale-to-minors compliance rate is the best in the nation, and our state liquor stores return hundreds of millions of dollars a year to state and local government.

Not worth the risk
These initiatives would threaten public safety, and undermine state services. The number of stores selling liquor would increase from 315 to over 3,300 — including mini-marts, gas stations, and corner stores. That would mean more risk of alcoholism and underage drinking — and less money for state public safety programs.

Eliminates union jobs
Both initiatives would cut the jobs of 1,000 UFCW members who work in state liquor stores. When any of our fellow union members’ jobs are threatened, we all need to stick together and fight to protect each other. That’s part of what a union is all about.
