Update: Pre-retirement meetings set for May 2008

We are pleased to announce the formation of a new organization for Local 21 retirees. Many retirees have learned from experience over their years in the union that getting informed, getting organized, and getting active is the key to best possible tool to defend our rights, secure our livelihoods, and protect what we’ve won for future generations

We don’t have all the details set yet because our group is still taking shape, but we expect that our retiree organization will take on issues like:

  • Making sure elected officials stand up for us on issues like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and prescription drug coverage
  • Fighting for retirement security for workers, our children, and all Americans. We need to ensure that Social Security and pension benefits are protected and improved — not destroyed.
  • Holding the line on health care costs, and fighting to secure quality affordable health care for all Washington families
  • Getting involved in politics to support the candidates who support our goals — and then holding them accountable to fulfill their promises once they get elected.

All retirees — and all union members approaching retirement - are heartily welcomed to be a part of this new initiative. Get involved today and help shape the organization with your ideas and your efforts: contact Local 21 Retiree Coordinator Rick Erickson at 1-800-732-1188, ext. 6598, or by email at rerickson@ufcw21.org.

Watch this space for more information as our group forms and develops. Together we can build our organization into a force for union retirees, our families, and our communities.
