Not Much Movement in Last Bargain

Much of the last bargain was spent clarifying proposals and cleaning up language. It is apparent that there is quite a bit of distance between our union proposals and Management’s.
Our Bargaining Team is standing firm on our priorities, they are all connected:
- Improved wages (no less than Good Sam receives in October)
- Quality and affordable medical coverage for quality medical care givers
- Reasonable process for those co-workers wanting to join the union without harassment from management
- Secure retirement
- Fair work rules such as quicker access to EIT and limits on low census
These are the issues we all feel are important to achieve in this bargain. As more and more of us get involved by wearing buttons, lanyards and taking actions we can attain our bargaining goals.
Standing Our Ground
We’re standing our ground on these important proposals. Management claims that business is flat, but what falls flat are their excuses. Our workload is as heavy as ever. Their internal numbers show the company is growing with continued expansion and gain share. We’ve provided excellent patient care for years, earning MultiCare an outstanding reputation in the community and millions of dollars. It’s disappointing to learn through negotiations that the bottom line is valued more than the quality care we provide. Unfortunately, we have to push Management for a contract that rewards our loyalty and hard work.
“Our hard work is what serves patients. That is what has helped make MultiCare’s business a success - including bringing Good Samaritan Hospital into the MultiCare family. So why are they proposing paying us a lot less than the people that work there?” –Ryan Boyd, MRI Tech
