UFCW 21 - A Voice for Working America

WSLCB Update

Workplace Update
After the initiative vote last November on state liquor stores, a series of meetings have been held in different locations around the state discussing issues relating to next steps for workers. Starting today (January 5, 2012), another round of meetings are to be held with WSLCB employees about the impacts of I-1183. Various meetings/workshops are expected to continue over the first few months of 2012 to allow for workers to get questions answered and to plan for the future.

Resource Workshops start today for all employees and will go through the end of February.  There are a number of meetings and times at various locations around the state, addressing issues such as General Government Transition Pool, Health Care, Retirement Benefits and Unemployment Insurance and other items. Sessions are 8:00 AM to Noon or 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.  Please check with your District Manager or call your Union Representative for more information.  These sessions are designed to educate employees regarding the available options you have prior to stores closing.

Lawsuit Update
As we notified members last month, UFCW 21 joined with Teamsters 174 in a legal challenge to Initiative 1183. The initial media coverage was very helpful to promoting our case and the legal merits of the case are sound. A hearing may be scheduled as soon as February. We have our legal team working to provide the best case possible and we remain optimistic over the outcome.  As more details become available, updates will be sent to members.

Bargaining Update
The effects of I-1183 will be part of upcoming bargaining set to begin on February 7th, 2012. We have notified the bargaining committee of the dates and time and will update members after the sessions on important details.
As always, please feel free to contact your Union Representative with any questions or concerns you may have at 1-800-732-1188.
