How We Make Our Endorsements
Our endorsement list is meant only for information to UFCW 21 members on endorsements we have made. Many members have let us know time and again that they value this information. The following endorsements are intended to show our best judgment of some candidates and ballot measures that will impact issues like wages, benefits, working conditions and overall quality of life. But how you vote is your decision — it’s up to you.
Research & Interviews
UFCW 21 makes endorsements very carefully. Hundreds of hours are spent reviewing candidate responses to our official questionnaires, holding in-person interviews, and carefully researching the issues on your ballot.
The information provided here comes directly from that effort.
Evaluation
Our elected union Executive Board makes the final decisions on how endorsements are made. UFCW 21 is a non-partisan organization. We don’t base our endorsements on party labels — we base them on a candidate’s track record and commitment to improving the lives of workers and the communities where they live.
The Executive board includes more than three dozen rank-and-file union members representing a wide cross-section of our membership — including grocery, retail, health care, and other industries.

UFCW 21 Endorses Inslee for Governor
UFCW 21’s Executive Board has unanimously endorsed Jay Inslee for Governor. The Executive Board, elected by the membership as a whole, has over 30 workers from our membership across the industries we represent.
Inslee has been a state legislator and Congressman for many years and has strong and consistent record of support for collective bargaining rights here in Washington and around the nation. He has shown that he is not afraid to stand up for workers against corporate interests. As an example, when the banking industry was lobbying hard to repeal legisltion that protected consumers, he fought it and was only one of a handful of legislators who voted against it. He has a 100% voting record for the UFCW priorities in Congress and we are counting on him to bring that leadership here. We know that Inslee has what it takes to effectively serve the people of Washington as our next Governor and we fully throw our support behind him as a candidate.
We will be working hard in 2012 to get him elected and keep him accountable once he gets in office.
