Steward Conference

This year’s Steward Conference was a success. Our devoted and experienced Stewards spoke to a record number of new Stewards to inspire and tell their personal story of why Stewards are so important in our union. There were a number of inspirational speakers with their message of how unions effect the world we live in. We also had our yearly raffle with some great prizes.


This year's Steward Conference was focused on Reclaiming the American Dream.	Dave Schmitz and Diane Zahn presenting awards to Stewards.

Everyone enjoyed the Steward stories. Joe Solorio gave some comic relief with his pizza story.	We have strength in numbers, record number of Stewards in attendance this year and a record number of new Stewards trained in 2011.

Interactive workshops for Stewards on workplace health and safety.	For the first time this year we had language translators for our Stewards who don't speak English.

Making connections.	UFCW 21 State liquor store Stewards could feel the support from across the union.

The health care timeline was another great interactive workshop.	Stewards told their health care story.

Awards were given out to Steward who went above and beyond.	Macy's Stewards enjoying a break.

Taking the time for evaluations helps future events.	Stewards coming together and learning from and with each other.

	Reclaiming the American Dream Mark M. McDermott was a guest speaker at our 2011 Steward Conference on Reclaiming the American Dream. Mark has a long history in the labor movement and told a very powerful and moving story about his family that tracked the history of the labor movement. Mark believes a strong union movement has changed the world and we can do it again. Now is the time, we must fight for our future. 	The times, they are a-changing (or are they?) Aaron Katz was a guest speaker for the health care Stewards at this year's conference. Aaron is the Principal Lecturer for the School of Public Health at the University of Washington. His presentation focused on the ever changing health care system.
