Standing Our Ground

Last month MultiCare threatened our rights to get information as union members and to connect in our workplace. This is a fundamental right which allows workers to stick together and improve our lives.

Their threat was communicated in a letter after Pam Blauman's visit to the cafeteria on November 22. MultiCare's letter threatened to arrest Pam if she were to return and do as she had done hundreds of times for nearly 10 years – sitting at a cafeteria table talking to members with contracts and literature. The right to have these conversations and share this information is critical for our strength as workers.

December 13, 2011 -
Around 12:30pm, HR showed up and asked Pam “What are you doing?” and requested that she remove her materials. Standing up for our union and our rights, knowing that it could lead to her arrest, Pam simply and politely refused to move our union contracts and other materials from the table. Apparently MultiCare decided not to call the police. Over the next 3 hours member after member came by to get an update on the current challenges with MultiCare and wish Pam well.

This is just another attempt by MultiCare to try and take away our rights as workers and threaten our union. By standing together and standing up for our rights we are able to show our strength.

Pam will plan on returning for another day in the cafeteria after the holidays. As always having an open space in the workplace where anyone can come to get information, ask questions and speak to their union Rep. is an important right that we will not allow MultiCare to take away.

MultiCare Unfair Labor Practice Update

MultiCare is still planning at this time to move forward with increasing our health care costs without an agreement. Clearly this is a violation of our rights. We will continue to fight and keep you updated.
