The National Retail Federation — strongly backed by Macy’s and other retail giants — is a leader of the opposition to Employee Free Choice. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other business and industry lobby groups have also made their position clear.

Union members know what happens when co-workers stick together on the job: together, union members win higher wages and better benefits, raising standards for all workers in the process.

But times are tough, companies are cutting back, and families are struggling to make ends meet. The simple truth is that we need more workers on our side of the bargaining table if we expect to keep the American Dream alive. The Employee Free Choice Act is the way to get us there.

The Employee Free Choice Act would strengthen workers’ right to freely choose union representation through a simple, fair process. Right now, 60 million non-union workers say they would join a union if they could. Just imagine how much more strength we’d have in contract negotiations with millions more workers on our side.

In the first 2 weeks of June, Local 21 will join a national effort to collect a million signed cards in support of the Employee Free Choice Act. Big business is worried about this campaign. They’re spending tens of millions of dollars on misleading advertisements and lobbying efforts because they don’t want us to have stronger bargaining power.

Please add your voice by signing a card to the next president and Congress urging them to support Employee Free Choice. Talk to your Union Representative about how you can get a card and then help spread the word about this critical issue and collect more cards from your co-workers.

Together, we can pass the Employee Free Choice Act and restore the American Dream.
